Self Care

This is where I will talk about any self care troubles or ideas

Self Care Overview

Self care comes in many shapes and sizes. It is not the same for everybody. There is no one little box that everyone has to fit in. Self care is about whatever makes you happy. Whatever makes you feel good.

What do I do

I meditate, do yoga, paint, work on cars, exercise, garden, build things, go on walks, play with my animals, you name it. I have a lot of hobbies. I pick whatever will make me the happiest at that moment. I also pick what I might have time for in that day, or the equipment or parts to do it. What do you like to do?

In the midst of grief

Yesterday, my bunny that I have had for 5 years, snowball, passed away. I had a bunch planned for yesterday, but I couldn’t do it. I was really sad and you know what? That’s alright. Doing nothing is considered self care too. You are taking care of you and what you need. At that moment, I needed to take time for me and just be present. I needed to sit with my grief and work through it. It doesn’t make you lazy. It doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human. Sometimes we have to sit and do nothing. Sometimes we need a break from everything. I know that that’s what I needed and I know she is happy and healthy in heaven hopping around with her sister.

Reading

Reading is one of my favorite things to relax me. I even review books to get free books because books are expensive. Even reviewing the books is relaxing for me. Who else loves to read to relax? It’s like escaping into another world.

Cooking

I love to cook. Recently I have gotten into canning. I am having a lot of fun with that and need to get a pressure canner. I enjoy cooking especially if I see someone who is happy with it and goes back for more. It’s always fun to try new recipes it change ones that you find. Experimentation is the beauty of cooking. It doesnt have to be perfect (unless you’re being graded, but even then you should do what you can to be unique). Cooking is a good way to express yourself and a great stress relief

Time

One thing that is hard to find is time. Especially if you are working and you have to come home and do chores everyday or you have kids and animals. You have to make even just 1-2 minutes a day about you. Take time and do some deep breathing, a 1-2 minute meditation, a few yoga poses, part of a painting or drawing, or even take longer if you can to take a relaxing bath, or start and finish a painting, a yoga session, meditation, or anything that makes you happy. It doesn’t have to be a long time to be self care. Self care comes in many forms.
